Council Jobs Lost

Its been confirmed to Heart that 134 jobs will go at County Hall with 50 of those redundancies. The council met today to discuss how to save 40 million pounds in the next year.

The meeting's still going on but we've been told the council are committed to freezing council tax so the savings will have to be made elsewhere. Its expected to be confirmed some of the services affected include care homes and libraries as well as subsidised rural buses and the planned expansion of the Silk Mills Park and Ride in Taunton.

Meanwhile Taunton and Deane Borough Council say their cardboard and plastic recycling scheme will continue despite them needing to make cuts of 1.4 million pounds. It means their council tax will increase by around 6p per week.
