Midwife open day in Yeovil

Anyone who is considering training to be a midwife is invited to spend a day with midwives at Yeovil District Hospital.

The event, the first of its kind to be held locally, will take place on Saturday, 10 March between 9am and 4pm. It is an opportunity for budding midwives to learn more about antenatal and postnatal screening; homebirths; waterbirths; breastfeeding and specialist midwife roles.

Student midwives will be on hand to meet those who attend and there will be plenty of advice on applying for a university place to study midwifery. The event will be held in the hospital’s Academy and lunch will be provided. It is aimed at sixth form students and above.

Midwifery Practice Educator, Sara Stride said:

“Due to the sensitive nature of our work we cannot take work experience students on the wards and home visits. But we are inundated with requests from people considering midwifery as a career and students applying for university places who need a greater understanding of the profession. As a result some of our team have agreed to come in on a Saturday to share their experiences.”
