Movie props on display in Somerset

Warrior costumes and props from some of the biggest films of all time will be in Somerset this summer.

'Way of the Warrior' is a new touring exhibition which opens at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton on 14 July 2012.

The exhibition is a visually stunning collection of movie weaponry, armour and costumes used in popular historical blockbuster movies such as Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan.

The exhibition also describes the weapons, tactics and philosophies of the warriors, and their most famous battlefield encounters. Visitors will be able to see how the life and role of a warrior have changed over time with developing military technology.

Other movies whose props feature in the exhibition include Alexander, King Arthur, Kingdom of Heaven, The Last Samurai and Black Hawk Down.

David Hall, Somerset County Council's Cabinet Member for Heritage Services, said: ''This is an exhibition which is sure to appeal to visitors of all ages. It will offer a truly hands-on experience for all the family, including replica arms and armour that can be handled and worn. We are delighted to offer this national touring exhibition to people from Somerset and beyond, and we look forward to welcoming them.''

The exhibition runs from 14 July to 29 September. The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm Tuesdays to Saturdays, and on Bank Holiday Mondays. Entry to the museum and the exhibition is free. For further information please call 01823 255088.
