The Lib Dems take Wells

The votes have now all been counted here in Somerset

Following a recount in Wells Lib Dem candidate Tessa Munt has taken the seat from Conservative David Heathcote Amory who has been MP there since 1983. Wells had been a Tory seat since 1955.  The vote was close Tessa Munt taking a majority of just 800 votes.  Ms Munt received 24,560 votes compared with 23,760 votes for Mr Heathcoat-Amory, who had to pay back almost £30,000 following the expenses scandal.

The Liberal Democrats held onto Yeovil, Taunton Deane and Somerton and Frome

 In Somerton and Frome, David Heath increased his majority.....the seat was number 11 on the Tory target list.

In Yeovil, Lib Dem frontbencher David Laws has kept his seat with a majority of 13,036.

And In Taunton Deane, Jeremy Browne's the victor, increasing his majority.

For the Conservatives Ian Liddell Grainger have held Bridgwater and Somerset West....Liam Fox held North Somerset and John Penrose retains his seat in Weston super Mare.

The turnout here in Somerset was as follows  

Somerton and Frome 74.42%

Bridgwater 67%,

Yeovil 69.54%,

Taunton 70.5%, 

Wells 70.3%
