Woman Sexually Assaulted In Southampton

Detectives are investigating allegations of a serious sexual assault against a 25 year old Southampton woman as she made her way home after spending an evening with a friend.

The woman was walking along Cumberland Place at around 12.20am this morning, Tuesday, January 10, when it is reported that she stumbled and fell.

A man unknown to her has provided assistance and moments after, he is alleged to have sexually assaulted her in Grosvenor Square, near to the car park.

A scene has been cordoned off at that location to enable investigating officers to fully investigate the allegation and to recover any forensic evidence.

Officers are also appealing to anyone who was in the general area Bedford Place, London Road, Cumberland Place and Grosvenor Square, between 12.15am and 1.15am this morning to contact them if they saw or heard anything that might assist the police with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Area Investigation Team at Southampton Central police station on 101 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers charity line 0800 555 111.
