Air Rifle Stolen in Southampton

Police are issuing an urgent appeal for information after an air rifle was stolen during a burglary at a Southampton water sports and rifle range.

Burglars forced their way into the water sports office at the Southampton University Boat Hard and Rifle Range in Mead Crescent, Swaythling, at about 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 7.

The burglary wasn't discovered until yesterday morning (Thursday, July 15), when a member of ground staff arrived at work.

An air arms .22 black and woodstock air rifle, housed in a black case, was stolen along with 50 pellets.

Two Dell laptop computers worth approximately £850, a projector worth £600-£700 and £1,000 in cash was also taken.

Detective Sergeant Will Whale based at Southampton Central Police Station, said: "This 'sniper style' rifle could prove extremely dangerous in the wrong hands. I want this gun back it should not be on the streets. I'm appealing for anyone who has it or knows of its whereabouts to contact me urgently. I have this message for who ever has it: If you are found to have it illegally you could go to prison so I advise you give it back now."
