Appeal For Fatal Crash Witnesses

Police are trying to trace two motorists who may have seen a collision in Bursledon in which three-year-old Billie King died.

It happened shortly before 7pm on Thursday, March 1 when Billie was hit by a blue Honda CBF 600 motorcycle as she crossed Hamble Lane with family members.

Billie was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she died shortly after arrival.

Police now believe the drivers of two vehicles, a white car with rear spoiler – possibly a Subaru - and a small dark vehicle, could have seen the collision or at least the parties involved prior to it.

Sgt Andy Lynch of the Eastleigh Road Death Investigation team, said:

“It’s very important we get a full picture of what occurred in the moments prior to the collision and of course the collision itself.

“We’d appeal for the drivers of these vehicles to come forward as, even thought they may feel they have nothing to offer, they may hold a vital piece of information which could assist with our investigation.”

A 38-year-old man from Eastleigh was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was bailed until July 11 pending further enquiries.

Police say the two drivers they are appealing for are believed to be witnesses to the collision and nothing more.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Andy Lynch at the Eastleigh Road Death Investigation team, quoting Operation Anderwood, on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
