Arrest Made After Racial Attack In Southsea

A man's been arrested after a 22 year old mum was racially attacked in Southsea.

The woman of North African descent was pushing her son in a buggy when she was verbally abused and threatened by two men.

It happened outside the Co-op store on Elm Grove in Southsea shortly after 3pm on September 30th.

The men then crossed the road and began verbally abusing other people walking along the path.

Investigating officer PC Gavin Brechany said:

"This appears to have been a particularly nasty and completely unprovoked verbal attack on a young mother in the presence of her infant son.

''It is likely that people would have witnessed this abuse, and I would urge those people to come forward.

''Hampshire Police works hard to promote safer communities and to eradicate hate crime''.

A 20-year-old man from Southsea has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order, questioned and released on police bail until October 28, 2013 pending further enquiries.
