Assault In Southampton After Football Game

There has been a double assault in Southampton, not long after the football match between Saints and Manchester United.

The assault happened on Sunday, September 2, between 5.30 and 6pm. The two Southampton men, aged 26 and 20, were attacked by a group of white men as they walked near the junction of St Mary's Road and Dorset Street.

One of the attackers had a white Staffordshire bull terrier dog which bit the victims and both needed treatment for dog bites.

The older victim also suffered a dislocated shoulder and the younger victim had several broken ribs and scratching. Both were treated at Southampton General Hospital and released.

The assault occurred after the Southampton - Manchester United match, when there were a number of people in the area. In addition, traffic stopped during the attack and while one victim lay unconscious in the road.

The attackers ran off down St Mary's Road and into Clovelly Road.

Although a number of witnesses have spoken to police, officers believe there are other people who saw the incident and have not come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Acting Sergeant Paul Salley at Southampton Central police station on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
