It's thought Joey Prew was taking a short cut home in Nimrod Drive in Rowner early on Sunday.
Hampshire police issued the following statement:
"Around 2.10am on Sunday, August 26, officers from Hampshire Constabulary were called to Nimrod Drive, Gosport following reports that a teenager had fallen from the pedestrian bridge and was lying in the road.
"The 17-year-old boy was treated by paramedics at the scene and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
"An investigation into the boy’s death is under way on behalf of the coroner. At this time there are no suspicious circumstances."
Hundreds of tributes have been left on Facebook for the teenager, and flowers have been laid underneath the bridge.
