BT Van Driver Critically Injured

Police are appealing for information following a crash in which a man was critically injured.

The collision between an Scania LGV and a Ford BT van occurred on the eastbound carriageway of the A31 Alresford Road, Alresford shortly after 6.20am on February 10th 2011.

The driver of the BT van, a 54-year-old man from Eastleigh, received extensive life threatening injuries and fire crews spend three hours working to release him before he was taken to Southampton General Hospital by road ambulance.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital. The driver of the LGV, a 41-year-old Barnstaple man, was uninjured.

The road was closed for nine hours while accident investigators examined the scene and awaited recovery for both vehicles. It was re-opened at 3..30pm.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the crash, or either vehicle prior to it, to call Sgt Shaun Hopkins on 101, quoting Operation Chimes.
