Emergency Landing At Southampton Airport

A Flybe plane has made an emergency landing at Southampton Airport on Thursday 8th November.

Police, Fire and ambulance crews rushed to the scene just before 9am and part of the M27 at junction 5 was closed for a time as a precaution.

In a statement Flybe said:

Flybe can confirm that flight BE229 from Southampton to Jersey landed safely at Southampton airport after returning from airborne following a technical fault that resulted in the captain electing to shut down the number two engine as a safety precaution.

The Bombardier Q400 aircraft is designed to continue flying safely with one of its  engines shut down but, as is standard industry procedure, the aircraft was met by the airport's emergency service vehicles.

The aircraft landed without further incident and all 34 passengers disembarked as normal and were re-accommodated on another flight.

Flybe regrets any inconvenience experienced by passengers but as always the safety of our passengers and crew remains the airline's number one priority.
