Ferry Passenger Jumps Overboard

A passenger has been rescued from the sea near Portsmouth after they jumped overboard from the Isle of Wight ferry.

It happened just before 7pm on Wednesday 28th September 2011.

The Ferry company have released this statement:

Wightlink can confirm that on the 1847 sailing from Ryde last night (28 September) a man climbed over the railings onboard Wight Ryder I and entered into the water on the vessels approach into Portsmouth.

The Captain and crew followed all emergency procedures and the passenger was picked up by a passing yacht and taken to the camber in Portsmouth where medical assistance was waiting. A police launch was also in the area and accompanied the yacht to the camber.
