Filthy Portsmouth Takeaway Fined £7,000
A Portsmouth takeaway's been fined almost £7,000 over its filthy kitchen.
Indian Ocean on Fratton Road had mouse droppings on a work surface and no hot water for washing up.
The firm admitted six charges and its co-director's also been banned from running any food business.
The company pleaded guilty to six food safety charges it faced. Magistrates fined them £700 each on offences 1-5 and £1500 on offence 6 (No documented food safety system).
Full costs were awarded of £1,592.31 and a victim surcharge of £120 Total: £6,712.31
A co-director of the company was also prohibited from taking part in the management of a food business.
The prosecution by Portsmouth City Council was for the following:
Offences under regulation 19(1) of The Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 for contraventions of food law on 27th August 2014 contributing to imminent risk to public health:
Poor cleanliness and repair of kitchen and food storage areas
The kitchen structure, food and hand contact surfaces and food storage areas were not maintained in good repair and in a clean condition in contravention of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 Article 4(2), Annex II Chapter I (1).
Dirty cooking equipment, refrigerators and freezer
Equipment not effectively cleaned and kept in such good order, repair and condition as to minimise any risk of contamination in contravention of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 Article 4(2), Annex II Chapter V (1(a), (b)).
Inadequate hand washing facilities
The wash basins were not provided with hot running water, materials for cleaning hands and materials for hygienic hand drying in contravention of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 Article 4(2), Annex II Chapter I (4).
Inadequate facilities for the cleaning of working utensils and equipment
The sink was dirty and scaled and was not provided with hot running water in contravention of Regulation (EC) no 852/2004 Article 4(2), Annex II Chapter II (2).
Absence of evidence that the business had an effective food safety management system
The food business operator had failed to put in place, implement and maintain permanent food safety procedures based on HACCP principles in contravention of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 Chapter I Article 5.
