Fire Destroys Southampton Car Workshop

Firefighters have managed to contain and extinguish a car workshop fire on Portswood Road in Southampton.

More than 30 firefighters attended the single-storey building fire which contained several cylinders of mixed contents - they had to remove the cylinders and cool them down.

Homes and businesses near the garage were evacuated by fire crews as a precaution.

Station Manager, Mark Ravan, said:

"The owner of the garage was quick to inform both the Police and Hampshire Fire of the incident. Crews worked hard to contain the fire and are now in the phase of returning the area back to normal."

Firefighters were alerted to the fire by the owner of the building at 11:11hrs on Friday November the 2nd and the fire was extinguished at 15:38hrs.

The building was completely destroyed by the fire.
