Giant Jubilee Cake Baked In Winchester
A giant cake fit for a Queen has been baked by military caterers near Winchester to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.
Instructors from the Defence Food Services School have spent the past six weeks crafting the 154lb cake in secrecy.
It will be presented to the Queen on Saturday at the Diamond Jubilee Parade and Muster at Windsor Castle.
The tiered cake has been designed to reflect the themes of the Silver, Gold and Diamond Jubilees as well as the contributions of all three services.
The cake has taken more than 500 hours to complete at the school, which is based at Worthy Down near Winchester.
The Parade and Muster will be the main event where the armed forces pay tribute to the Queen.
Some 2,500 personnel and bands from the Royal Navy, the Army and Royal Air Force will parade in Windsor Castle, and then through Windsor to muster in an arena at Home Park.
There will be a drum head service and a loyal address from the chief of the defence staff and the day will conclude with one of the biggest tri-service flypasts of the Queen's reign.
The cake will be formally presented to the Queen at a reception following the event.
