Hampshire Man Dies In M3 Crash

Police are investigating the death of a man following a collision on the M3 between junction eight and Winchester services.

Officers were called out at 10.13pm, Saturday, December 14 to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on the southbound carriageway.

A man aged in his 50s from Gosport was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been driving a Vauxhall that was involved in a collision with a second Vauxhall car, which did not stop at the scene.

A 44-year-old, who is believed to be the driver of the second Vauxhall, was arrested on the M3 near Basingstoke at 11.30pm on Saturday night on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Next-of-kin have been informed but police won't be able to name the deceased man in the media until all formal identification procedures are completed.

Part of the M3 between junctions eight and nine southbound was closed during the initial police response and investigation.
