Havant Man Arrested Over M3 Crash
Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the northbound carriageway of the M3 at Farnborough.
The incident happened at about 6.40pm on Monday [January 9] when a red Yamaha 'cruiser-style' motorcycle was in collision with a silver Mitsubushi Shogun on the slip road leading off the M3 at Junction 4.
The motorcyclist, a 55-year-old man from Farnborough sustained serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey.
The driver of the Shogun, a 53-year-old man from Havant was uninjured. He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and bailed until March 8.
The slip road remained closed until 11pm so collision investigators could examine the scene.
Sgt Jay Hewes of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit said:
“We are appealing anyone who witness the crash, or saw either vehicle just prior to it, to contact us as soon as possible.
“The scene was a busy stretch of the M3, and people in the area at the time may be able to help.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call PC Terry Barnes on 101, quoting Operation Amesbury.
640 men were killed when the South African troop carrier was hit by a cargo ship in 1917.
The 79-year-old man suffered a serious head injury in the Cranmer Road car park in Winton.
