Driver Arrested After Durley Crash
A man's been arrested over a hit and run crash near Winchester which left a driver with serious leg injuries.
Shortly before 2pm on Sunday 26 July, an 88-year-old man was driving a silver Saab along Winchester Road in Durley, accompanied by his wife, when his car was in collision with a Red Citroen C3.
The Citroen driver left the scene prior to police arriving.
The elderly man was trapped in the vehicle and remains in Southampton General Hospital, where he is being treated for complex leg injuries.
A 55-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested in connection with this incident and reported for summons in relation to the following offences:
- Driving without due care and attention
- Failure to stop after a collision
- Failure to report a collision
- Driving whilst disqualified.
He was released pending the summons to court.
Sergeant Dave Sanderson said:
“This collision was a horrible ordeal for this elderly couple.
“Failing to stop after a road accident of this nature is a very serious matter.”
Officers say many of those were after people didn't secure their car properly.
James Hemming pleaded guilty to wounding with intent after a 17-year-old girl was badly injured in Fratton.
Dorset and Hampshire officers will be carrying out extra patrols until New Year's Day.
