Local Election Results 2012

The Government's facing a tough day as Labour do well in the local elections.

They've taken control of key councils - including Southampton where they took control from the Tories.

Southampton Labour have tweeted overnight, saying "Exhausted, proud, and grateful to all the people of Southampton."

Labour Leader Ed Miliband says: "David Cameron should take responsibility because he has been sent a message by the people of this country, including in Southampton, people have said 'we don't like what this Government is doing'."

Meanwhile the Conservatives won control of Winchester, and held on to Havant, Fareham and Gosport.

The Lib Dems held on to Eastleigh and Portsmouth, where they won three wards boosting their majority to four.

In Dorset, Weymouth & Portland council is still in no overall control along with Purbeck.
