Lorry Backlog Causes Delays In Southampton

Lorry drivers have been stuck in long queues in Southampton for a third day in a row because of a massive back log at the city’s container port.

The waiting lorries have also been adding to rush hour traffic coming into the city, with congestion building up on the A35 inbound to the M271 near the Redbridge Roundabout on Thursday morning (Nov 18th).

DP World - who run the port - have told Heart that this weeks bad weather meant they couldn't load up a number of lorries.

There's now concern it could delay deliveries to shops ahead of Christmas.

A spokesperson for the company said:

“Please be advised that we are currently experiencing heavy landside congestion at DP World Southampton due to the high number of lorries accessing the terminal.

“This congestion is a knock-on effect from the fog disruption earlier in the week and the subsequent systems and process issues that followed during yesterday.

“Additional resources have been allocated to the landside operation to assist in clearing the backlog. Further progress updates will follow during the day.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.”
