Man Attacked In Attempted Car-Jacking

A man's been attacked during an attempted car-jacking in Southampton.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses after the incident in the early hours of Sunday, October 2.

Between 1.20am and 1.50am, the 46-year-old man from Romsey was sat in his car eating some food in the retail car park in Bursledon Road, Thornhill. There was a group consisting of one woman and two men nearby, and one of the men approached the vehicle.

He shouted at the man in the car telling him to get out, and then began kicking the car door.

The man in the car got out and said he wanted no trouble, but the other man said he wanted to take the car before trying to open the door. The owner stopped him and the other man then punched him.

The woman who had been nearby intervened and tried to stop the man, allowing the driver to get back into his car and leave the area.

Nothing was stolen during the incident, though the man who was punched suffered some facial swelling and bruising.

The man who approached the car is described as:

-White

-Between 18 and 20 years old

-Slim build

-Mid brown hair, around one inch in length, with no particular style

-Blue eyes which appeared to be bloodshot

-Wearing a mid-blue tracksuit top which had white stripes down the side, jeans and trainers

-Walking a white dog which looked young, and may have been a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or Pit Bull Terrier

The man involved in the incident said:

 "I just wanted to eat my food in peace and quiet, I can't believe someone would do this."

PC Richards said:

"We would like to speak to anyone who heard or saw anything in relation to the incident, and particularly to the two people who were with the offender. We believe there may also have been people nearby,perhaps at the fast food van that was parked in the area, and any information they have may also prove important to our investigation."
