Man Attacked in Southampton

Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a group of four friends who had been at a fancy dress party were attacked by a group of youths.

The victims, a 17-year-old girl, an 18-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man and a 21-year-old man had been at a fancy dress party at the Itchen Rowing Club by the Itchen Bridge on Saturday June 19. They left after the party ended about midnight dressed in their outfits, which were togas.
 
As they waited on the corner of Canute Road and Crosshouse Road around 1am for a taxi they were approached by a group of about 8-10 youths aged around 16. One is described as black with an afro haircut which was about four inches long.
 
They attacked the victims and stole mobile phone from three of them. The two men were hit and knocked unconscious. The girl and the women were pushed and thrown to the floor and one was spat at in the face.
 
The 18-year-old man who was punched ended up with a broken jaw. He has had to undergo surgery at Southampton General Hospital.
 
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone who saw the attack or who knows who the robbers are is asked to contact officers.
