Man Denies Stalking Portsmouth MP Mike Hancock

A pensioner has pleaded not guilty to stalking Portsmouth MP Mike Hancock by causing him alleged "serious alarm or distress''.

Les Cummings, of Berkshire Close, Portsmouth, denied the charge during a short hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court.

The 69-year-old, who appeared at court in a wheelchair, is accused of sending the MP offensive emails and distributing offensive leaflets to the public.

Cummings is also accused of accosting the MP for Portsmouth South (pictured) outside his constituency office and displaying alarming behaviour towards him.

The case was adjourned for trial at a date and venue to be set.

Mr Hancock was recently suspended from the Liberal Democrat Party as he faces a civil case in the High Court for alleged sexual assault. He denies any wrongdoing.
