Man Dies In Southampton Flat Fire

A man died in a flat fire in Southampton last night.

It broke out in Dyneley Green in Townhill Park at around 7.40pm. 

Hampshire Police and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service are carrying out a joint investigation. 

It's being treated as unexplained, but is not thought to be suspicious. 

The man was believed to be aged 69 and was found dead in an armchair. 

Firefighters from Hightown and Redbridge Fire Stations were called out to attend. 

It was a fire involving a first floor flat. Crews entered the flat wearing breathing apparatus and used hose reels to extinguish the fire.

Even though crews arrived promptly, and quickly tackled the fire, the man couldn't be saved. 

No one else was injured in the fire.
