Man Injured In Street Robbery

A 39-year-old man’s been attacked and had his wallet and mobile phone stolen while he was walking home at night in Portsmouth on Sunday, 3 July.

The victim was approached by two men he didn’t know on Gladys Avenue near the Corpus Christi Primary School between 11.30pm and 11.57pm.

He told police he was assaulted several times by one of the men, and then lost consciousness.

He received injuries to his head, face and upper body in the attack. He was taken to hospital and is now recovering at home. His black framed glasses also went missing in the robbery.

The two men were reported to be walking with two young women at the time of the attack.

All four were described as white and aged around 18-20. Both men were wearing tracksuits and baseball caps and one of the girls had long dark hair.

Sergeant Ellie Hurd said:

“This appears to have been an unprovoked, vicious attack on a man who was walking home alone to his family after a charity fundraising night in a local pub. We’re appealing for witnesses to make themselves known to police. In particular, detectives would like to speak with the two young women who were with the suspect at the time of the robbery.”

These women or anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Hurd at Fratton Police Station by phoning 101.
