Man Released Over Isle Of Wight Sex Attack

A man questioned on suspicion of a serious sexual assault on the Isle of Wight has been released with no further action being taken.

The man, who was arrested on the island on Monday afternoon (22 June), over a rape in Newport on Sunday has been eliminated from enquiries.

The victim, a woman, is being kept informed with appropriate support from specialist officers.

Several lines of enquiry continue to be pursued by detectives who are examining CCTV footage and analysing potential forensic evidence.

Police were called just after 3.30am on Sunday (21 June) to the Hunnyhill area of Newport between Heytesbury Road and Grange Drive where the victim was sexually assaulted by one man.

The scene was sealed off for a forensic examination.

Police continue to treat this report as an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community at this time.
