Officers were called at 7.58pm on Monday 3 June to an injured 20-year-old woman near the junction of Fawcett Road and Albert Road. The area was sealed off while initial enquiries at the scene were carried out.

The woman, from Southsea, was taken to QA Hospital in Cosham to be treated for a stab injury to her stomach area. Her condition was not life-threatening. She was later discharged.

Detective Inspector Christopher Parry of Portsmouth CID said:

"Our focus is to ensure this woman's welfare while establishing the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

"A motive has not been confirmed, but there is no information to suggest any links to other crimes, or any wider risk to the community at this time.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the area shortly before 8pm last night."

A suspect was described as a white man, approx 5 ft 10 ins to 6 ft tall, aged in his 30s, wearing light blue jeans, a red hooded top with the hood up, and a black T shirt underneath.
