Missing Hampshire Surfer: Body Found

Police are speaking to the family of a missing surfer after a body was found by dog walkers on a beach.

The body was found near to rock pools on Tolcarne beach, near Newquay, at around 12.45pm on Friday January the 13th.

Oliver Doy, 26, reported to be from Hook, Hampshire, was on holiday in the Cornish resort when he was reported missing on January 8.

He was last seen leaving a nightclub and walking near the cinema in the town in the early hours of January 7.

Police stressed no formal identification has taken place.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said:

''At around 12.45pm today police were called to Tolcarne Beach, Newquay after reports that a dog walker had discovered a body.

''On arrival officers found the body of a man near to rock pools.

''No formal identification of the body has taken place and investigations are continuing.

''The family of missing man Oliver Doy has been contacted but it is important to stress the inquiry is ongoing and no identification has taken place.''

The body was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske.
