Pet Sheep Attacked In New Forest

Police are appealing for information after a pet sheep was savagely attacked in a back garden along Walkford Lane, New Milton, on Sunday, September 16.

At some time between 8am and 2pm that day, Peggy, a five-year-old sheep, was grazing in the garden when she was attacked from behind, leaving her with severe damage to her tail and leg and the removal of fleece from a large area of her neck. She required 25 stitches to wounds.

Peggy survived and is recovering with her grazing ‘sister’ Pat. The two sheep were orphaned as lambs and are now five years old.

It is thought that a dog or dogs carried out the attack and, if so, the dogs’ owner would have been aware of the attack because of a large amount of blood on the dogs.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack or who saw a blood-covered dog or dogs in the area on the day of the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Alex Willson at the New Milton Safer Neighbourhoods Team on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
