Police Investigate Dangerous Boiler Work

Police in Portsmouth think people's lives may've been put at risk by a cowboy builder doing dangerous boiler installations and repairs.

Following an investigation in partnership with Portsmouth City Council Trading Standards, police have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of fraud and associated offences.
The investigation followed complaints of substandard work being completed on boiler installations and repairs. Customers, on occasions, are believed to have been charged a higher that average price for completed work. Cash was the only means of payment accepted as any other payment method was refused.
Detective Sergeant Mark Hall said: “These are potentially serious incidents where people have been put at risk due to the sub standard work. Police advise that you do not have any work carried out by anyone who is not gassafe registered and if in doubt contact gas safe first to ensure that they are"

A 40-year-old man from Portsmouth has been arrested on suspicion of Fraud and offences under the proceeds of crime act. He has been bailed pending further enquiries to report back to police on March 16 2012.
