Police Investigate Driver Attack

Officers investigating an attack in Ringwood have released an e-fit image of a man they're looking for.

A 39-year-old man was satting in his van in the lay-by at Hightown Hill on the A31 westbound near Ringwood on the evening of Tuesday November 23rd, when two men went up to him.

While one of the men asked the victim for directions, the other opened the passenger door and attempted to grab a piece of equipment from the van.

The victim tried to stop them and one of the men punched him in the face. The victim sustained minor injuries and his glasses were broken.

The two men then left the scene in a Mercedes Vito van, which is thought to be white with black number plates with silver writing.

The van is believed to have then headed westbound, towards Ringwood and Bournemouth.

One of the suspects is described as:

Aged in his late 30s or 40s
Of proportionate build
Had short cropped dark hair
Was wearing a dark coloured roll neck polo shirt which had white stripes on the shoulders
Spoke with a strong Irish accent.

The second suspect was described as:

White
Between 20 and 25 years old
Had a very thin, dark coloured moustache
Had dark scruffy hair
Wearing a black jacket.

PC Claire Holmes said:

“The A31 is a busy road and so it is likely that other road users may have seen the men or the van they were using. I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information which may assist us with our enquiries.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who recognises the man in the e-fit.”
