Police Still Investigating Shopworker Attack

Detectives in Portsmouth are releasing a CCTV image in the hope of identifying a man who assaulted a shop assistant earlier this year.

The image was taken on Monday, June 21, and shows a woman suspected of shoplifting from United Footwear on Fratton Road, Fratton

It is believed she stole a bag and trainers worth £50. Outside the store, she met up with a man on a pedal cycle.

Two members of staff followed her and approached her with the intention of recovering the goods.

When they confronted the woman, the man pushed one of the assistants, a 47-year-old woman into the road. He then pushed the second assistant, a 61-year-old woman, so hard that she fell over and broke her hip.

He rode off north up Fratton Road. He is described as:

White
18-20-years-old
Skinny build
Tanned skin

The woman is described as:

White
30-40-years-old
Blonde-brown hair

DS Huggett from Portsmouth CID said:

“We’ve already carried out extensive enquiries to try and trace the suspects in this assault, unfortunately without success so far.

“By putting out the CCTV image, someone will hopefully recognise this woman who is herself wanted on suspicion of shoplifting and who may lead us to the assailant.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Portsmouth CID at Fratton police station on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
