Police Warn Women 'Dont Walk Alone At Night'
Police are advising woman not to walk home alone after a night out in Southampton after a 20 year old woman was assaulted soon after she had left a night club.
The incident occurred in the subway in Brintons Road at around 4.20am on Sunday, March 20.
The woman had earlier left the Edge nightclub to walk home when she was followed by a man who tried to engage her in conversation.
As they approached the subway, the man pushed the woman to the floor and sexually assaulted her. The woman managed to push him off and make good her escape. Although she was shaken and upset by the incident, she was otherwise unharmed.
Her attacker is described as:
-Aged 25-30 years old,
-Fat cheeks, grade
-Grade two shaven head
-He was wearing a dark long sleeved jacket.
Anyone who saw this man in the area of the Edge nightclub before the attack or the Brintons Road area immediately afterwards or knows him, is asked to contact the police.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Barton who is leading the investigation said:
“This is a sexually motivated attack committed against a vulnerable woman who was making her way home after a night out. We would advise women to be aware of their alcohol consumption, particularly if they intend to walk home alone, but it would be preferable that they take a taxi or walk in well lit busier areas with a group.
The officer added:
“We would appeal to anyone who can assist us with our enquiries to contact us without delay, as it is not the first time that a woman has been targeted by an Asian male while making her way home after a night out in Southampton.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bitterne CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
