Pregnant Woman Attacked And Robbed

Detectives are investigating a report of a pregnant woman being robbed in Portsmouth.

The 29-year-old woman was walking along the pedestrian subway under the roundabout at the junction of Lake Road and Paradise Street on Monday, September 10th when she was attacked.

It's reported the victim was hit in the head before her handbag was stolen. The bag was later located nearby by two members of the public.

The woman's face also hit a wall in the course of the robbery, which happened sometime between 10.45am and 11.15am. She was taken to hospital to receive treatment for what police have been told is a potentially serious neck injury.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Steve Bourne said:

"This was a nasty attack where a pregnant woman received a blow to her head, and her hand bag was stolen. This subway can be busy with pedestrians so police are appealing for any witnesses to the robbery.

"We are also appealing for the couple who located the handbag nearby to make contact with the police. The couple passed the bag to people giving first aid to the victim in the subway."
