Arrest After Rape Allegation in Portsmouth

Detectives investigating an allegation of rape in Portsmouth have arrested a man.

The 26-year-old from Portsmouth was detained this morning and is currently being questioned on suspicion of rape.

Shortly after 1am, Monday, July 5, a 32-year-old woman met a man on Fratton Road by City Girls School.

She stated to police that he got her into a car and drove to a nearby park, possibly St Mary's recreation ground, where he sexually assaulted her.

The woman has been receiving support from Hampshire Constabulary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
