Arrest After Rape Allegation in Portsmouth

Detectives investigating an allegation of rape in Portsmouth have arrested a man.

The 26-year-old from Portsmouth was detained this morning and is currently being questioned on suspicion of rape.

Shortly after 1am, Monday, July 5, a 32-year-old woman met a man on Fratton Road by City Girls School.

She stated to police that he got her into a car and drove to a nearby park, possibly St Mary's recreation ground, where he sexually assaulted her.

The woman has been receiving support from Hampshire Constabulary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Fiona Holland at Fratton police station on 101 or 0845 045 45 45 from outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
