Robber Steals Restaurant Takings

Detectives in Eastleigh are appealing for witnesses and information after restaurant workers were robbed of takings after a night’s trading.

Two members of staff who work at the Kuti’s restaurant in Fair Oak Road, Fair Oak, locked up the restaurant at approximately 1.15am on Sunday, October the 17th.

They had just cashed up the evening’s takings and left the restaurant with a substantial amount of cash and walked towards Eastleigh along Fair Oak Road.

On leaving the premises the pair noticed two white men aged about 20-22 years-old sat outside the restaurant on a bench.

The staff walked past the two men and continued along Fair Oak Road towards Eastleigh.

As the staff got towards Stamford Way a man approached the pair and asked them if they had any cigarettes.

The staff ignored the man and walked off and the man continued to follow the pair to Dean Road, where he punched and kicked both restaurant workers before stealing the takings and ran off in the direction of Allington Lane. The exact amount he took hasn't been revealed but it's thought to be more than £1000.

The suspect is described as white, aged 20-22 years of age, between 5ft 6 to 5ft 9 ins tall, slim to medium build, and wearing a dark blue hooded top.

Det Sergeant Jamie Wiseman of Eastleigh CID, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on two members of staff, one who has ended up being admitted to Southampton General Hospital with a cut to his face which required treatment. The other man didn't need any treatment.

“I am particularly keen to hear from any members of the public who were in or around the Fair Oak Road in the early hours of this morning and saw this robbery or anyone acting suspiciously in the area.

“I’d also like to trace the two men seen sat on the bench outside Kuti’s. Was this you and did you see anything suspicious?  You may have vital information which could help us with our enquiries.”

Police are currently carrying out house to house enquiries and additional patrols in the area following the robbery.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Eastleigh CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
