Royal Navy Ships Away For Christmas

While millions of families will be together over Christmas and New Year, the crew of four Portsmouth-based Royal Navy warships will be thousands of miles away from their loved ones.

The Type 42 destroyer HMS Gloucester and also HMS Clyde are both in the Falkland Islands, whilst the minehunters HMS Chiddingfold and HMS Middleton are in the Gulf.

Heart's Ali Law's been speaking to the captain of HMS Gloucester, Commander David George, to find out how the ship's company is celebrating Christmas, so far from home.

Listen to the full interview here.

Meanwhile the crew's been kept busy dealing with the sackloads of Christmas post which have been arriving for them....

Lots of Christmas post for the ship's company!
