Strange Man Follows Women On South Coast

A strange man has been seen folowing women in Eastleigh - police are urging young women not to walk home alone at night or in secluded areas.

Eastleigh Safer Neighbourhoods team is encouraging young women and girls in the Eastleigh area to increase their personal safety awareness.

The advice comes following reports of a suspicious man seen in areas of the town.

In the past two weeks the team have received four reports of a man targeting young women and girls and following them for quite a distance before disappearing.

There have been no reports of young women or girls being approached by the man.

The incidents have occurred in Chestnut Avenue, Leigh Road, Oakmount Road, Falkland Road and the Aviary Estate.

In each case the man is described as:

-25-30 years of age

-Approximately 6ft tall

-Slim build

-Wearing a black hooded top

PC Julieanne Huchison of Eastleigh Safer Neighbourhoods team said:

"I would encourage all young women and girls to be more aware of their personal safety following these reports. Avoid walking alone in secluded areas, stick to main roads where possible, carry a charged up mobile phone and make sure someone knows where you are and what time to expect you back.

"If you notice anyone acting suspisciously please contact us."

If it is an emergency dial 999.

Anyone with information should contact the Eastleigh Safer Neighbourhoods team on 101 or Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
