Taxi Driver Attacked In Southampton

Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was attacked by two men who were riding in his cab.

He had picked them up from Leisure World at around 3am on Sunday, December 11 and was travelling towards Sholing where they had asked to go. As they got near Itchen Bridge the men started getting abusive towards him and he felt unsafe sopulled up outside the back entrance to Lucia Foster Welsh Halls in Canute Road and asked them to get out.
 
The men continued to be abusive and one got out and kicked the passengers door and he then kicked the mirror off. The other man did the same to the drivers door and wing mirror. The victim was also punched to the head and back several timesbefore one of them got out a knife.
 
The driver went to the back of the car and as he did so another taxi and another car pulled up. The other car contained three women and a man who got out. When they saw the knife they screamed and the two attackers ran off in the directionof the Itchen Bridge.
The attackers are described as: 

*Man 1) White, English, aged around 45, local accent, 5ft 10 inches tall, stocky build, short light brown coloured hair, clean shaven, wearing a dark brown polo shirt, blue jeans.
*Man 2) White, English, aged in his late 30s, local accent, 6ft tall, slim build, he had more hair than the other male and was clean shaven. He was wearing a polo shirt which was a mixture of a bluey green colour and blue jeans.
 
Police are now trying to trace the witnesses in the car and taxi that pulled up and also anyone else who may have seen what happened.

They are also keen to hear from anyone else with information about the incident.
