Teenager Dies In New Forest Car Crash

Police are investigating a man’s death in a car crash near Blackfield and Langley in the New Forest.

Officers were called at 6.43am on Saturday, December the 10th by a member of the public to a report of a blue Daewoo Matiz that had rolled over on Lepe Road, near the Fawley oil refinery.

A man aged in his late teens from the local area was found inside the car and pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Next-of-kin were informed but police will not be in a position to confirm the name of the deceased until all formal identification procedures are completed.

Part of Lepe Road was closed to allow officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) to begin enquiries into the circumstances.

The road was due to re-opened at approximately 1.30pm on Saturday, December 10th.

Senior Investigating Officer, Acting Sergeant Dave Dyer of the Roads Policing Unit said:

"I would like to thank other emergency services and members of the public for their assistance and co-operation so far.

"At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed no-one else was travelling in the car and no other vehicles were involved in this collision.

"Our initial enquiries are focused on how this car appears to have gone out of control and rolled over on Lepe Road.

"We’re appealing for witnesses to what happened or anyone who remembers seeing a blue Daewoo Matiz being driven south on
Lepe Road during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Totton Police Station by phoning 101.
