Thieves Steal £1,500 Of Cigarettes From Supermarket

Police are trying to find three men who stole £1,500 worth of cigarettes from a supermarket in Southampton.

At about 4.30am on Wednesday, May 8, staff at Sainsbury's on Redcar Street in Shirley heard banging from the cigarette kiosk in the closed store. They saw two people crouching by drawers full of cigarettes.

The suspects had forced open the store's front doors and the roller shutter door of the kiosk. They filled a green garden waste bag with cigarettes and left through the front door.

It is believed three people arrived at the store on two motorbikes, one with two people on it. They left on the bikes, from the store car park towards Victor Street.

Police say they hope the distinctive clothing of one of the people will help identify him.

PC Alex Bowman said:

"You would notice the yellow and silver design on the back of the man's helmet, and the design on the Lacoste rucksack is memorable.  If you know someone who wears this clothing, please contact the police at Shirley on 101.

"We also want to hear from anyone who has been offered cheap cigarettes in the last two days."

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to ring PC Bowman at Shirley on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
