Thieves Target Pregnant Woman

Police at Bitterne are seeking witnesses to an attempted street robbery in which a heavily pregnant woman was knocked to the ground in an attempt to steal her handbag.

At about 8.45am Monday, November 12, the 20-year-old Hedge End woman got off a bus in Portsmouth Road, Woolston, Southampton.

She walked to Victoria Road on her way to work. As she reached the Age UK charity shop, she was knocked to the ground by someone who tried to steal her shoulder strap bag.

The attempt failed, and the offender ran off towards Portsmouth Road.

The offender is described as wearing a dark hoodie with long brown hair hanging from each side of the hood.

The woman was checked by an ambulance crew and her doctor.

The unborn child is not believed to have been harmed. The mother-to-be was not injured.

Police want to hear from everyone who witnessed the incident or who saw someone of the offender's description running along Portsmouth Road, away from Victoria Road.
