Officers are investigating a deliberate fire which destroyed two cars and damaged a third in Fawley.
Between 2am and 2.50am on Wednesday, February 29, a Skoda Felicia was set alight, and as the fire spread it also caught on to two other vehicles nearby; a Citroen ZX and a Ford Fusion.
All three cars had been parked in a car park at the corner of Blackfield Road and Foresters Road. The Skoda and Citroen cars were completely destroyed by the fire, and the Ford suffered damage to the rear and one side of the vehicle.
A week earlier, between 4pm on February 21 and 5.20am on February 22, an attempted arson was reported after the Skoda Felicia, while parked in the same location, suffered damage around the fuel cap. Something had been placed inside the cap and set alight, though the fire did not spread.
Officers are now carrying out enquiries in the local area in an effort to identify potential witnesses.
A 42-year-old man from Fawley was arrested on suspicion of arson and has been released without charge.
Sergeant Simon Flint said, “We are currently following up a number of lines of enquiry and have increased police patrols in the area. We are examining the possibility that the incident a week ago is linked to the fire fromyesterday and whether the vehicles were targeted at all. We do believe these incidents are isolated and I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously in the area recently.”
