Train Driver And Guard Attacked At Southampton Central
Four men, including a train driver and guard, have been attacked at Southampton Central station.
British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for witnesses to come forward after a fight on board a train on Monday 12 May.
The incident began on board the 10:58pm Romsey to Romsey via Southampton service.
Detective Sergeant Dave Peek, leading the investigation, said:
“At approximately 11.15pm a fight broke out on board the train at Southampton Central railway station. This spilt onto the platform while the train was waiting at the station.
“Four people were assaulted, including three members of railway staff. One member of staff was left with a broken nose and the train guard and driver were also attacked.”
Officers from BTP and Hampshire Constabulary attended the incident, alongside the South Central Ambulance Service.
DS Peek added:
“Rail staff have the right to come to work without the fear of violence. BTP take all incidences of staff assault very seriously and we are doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice. I’d ask anyone who was on the train at the time and has not yet come forward to the police to do so. They might have crucial information about what happened.”
Two 20-year-old men, and a 19-year-old man, from Romsey and a 20-year-old man from Salisbury, have been arrested on suspicion of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) and Affray and has been released on bail until 10 June pending further enquiries.
