Transporter Catches Fire On M3

Hampshire fire crews have attended a fire involving a car transporter on the M3, outside Basingstoke.

Fire Service Control Room operators handled a 999 call at 10:09am on Thursday, 6 January 2011 to reports of a car transporter alight between junctions 8 and 9 (southbound) of the M3.

The transporter was carrying eight vehicles when it caught light.

Two fire engines from Basingstoke and one from Winchester went to the scene - they say the fire had started in the bearings of the vehicle’s rear axle and spread, affecting four of the cars it was transporting.

The fire was put out just before 11am.
