Two Arrested On Suspicion Of Dealing Drugs

Operation Fortress – two arrested in Southampton in campaign to combat drugs and drug-related violence.

Hampshire Constabulary’s crackdown on drugs and drug-related violence continues with the arrest of two men in Southampton.

The pair were detained on Sunday night (June 17) by police following allegations about drug activity at an address on Cranbury Terrace in the city centre.

A 21-year-old man from Southampton is being questioned on suspicion of blackmail and the supply of class A drugs.

A 31-year-old Southampton man is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

DS James McMann from the Operation Fortress investigation team said: “These latest arrests are part of our plan to make Southampton and the surrounding areas a hostile place for people dealing in drugs like heroin and crack cocaine.

“We want to make life very unpleasant for anyone intent on bringing drugs and violence to our city. “Both men were arrested following information that came into the Operation Fortress team about the supply of drugs.”

Operation Fortress is a multi-agency strategy aimed at reducing harm to the communities of Southampton, and, in particular, at reducing the serious violence caused by individuals and groups involved in drug trafficking.

It will run for two years, and is funded by Hampshire Police Authority.

If you’re concerned about the use or supply of drugs or drug-related violence in your neighbourhood, contact the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
