Violent Robbery On Asian Family

Southampton detectives are appealing for information after three generations of an Asian family were threatened in their home at Mountain Ash Close, Bitterne, during a robbery.

Between 8.15 and 8.40pm Sunday, November 25th, the family of five adults and two children were confronted by three men who threatened them with violence and demanded money and jewellery.

During the incident, a 32-year-old man was struck on the head. He was later treated at the scene by an ambulance crew. No one else was injured.

The robbers took gold rings, a bracelet, a laptop, a watch and mobile phones.

The three men are described as white and wearing scarves to cover their lower faces.

Police made a comprehensive search of the area, using police dogs and officers from the Force Support Unit. They believe the suspects may have left the area in one or two vehicles: a dark-coloured and a silver or light blue car.

Detective Sergeant Graeme Eaton said the robbery does not fit the pattern of other incidents where high value gold Asian jewellery was taken.

“Almost all of these cases occurred when houses were empty. This incident involved an entire family who were at home. It is possible that the family was targeted for some unknown reason,” Det Sgt Eaton said.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who heard shouting, or saw any vehicles leaving the area of Mountain Ash Close or Mon Crescent at the time of the robbery.
