Weather Warning For Hampshire
We're being warned of an increased risk of flooding across Hampshire as the Met Office forecasts up to 80mm (three inches) of rain over the next two days.
Significant disruption, including disruption to travel and the risk of flooding is possible. Strong coastal winds will increase the risk of flooding as wind-blown debris has the potential to block rivers and drains.
The Environment Agency has mobilised teams across south Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and West Sussex to check on flood defences, clear any river blockages and closely monitor river levels.
Anyone concerned about potential flooding should sign up for free flood warnings on the Environment Agency’s website or by calling the Environment Agency Flood Line on 0845 988 1188.
Andrew Gilham, Flood and Coastal Risk Manager for Solent and South Downs at the Environment Agency, said: “We are keeping a close eye on rainfall levels across south Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. There is a possibility of localised surface water flooding into Monday and Tuesday. We ask that people stay safe, by staying away from swollen rivers and not attempting to drive through floodwater. We also strongly urge people to sign up to flood warnings, keep a close eye on local weather forecasts and be prepared for the possibility of flooding.
“The Environment Agency already has teams out on the ground across south Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Sussex checking on flood defences and clearing any blockages in order to reduce the risk of flooding as much as possible.”
Hampshire County Council will have extra highways crews and tankers on standby to deal with incidents of flooding on the roads.
