Woman Assaulted In Fordingbridge

Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged assault in Fordingbridge on Sunday (Dec 12).

Between 9.45pm and 10pm a 47-year-old woman was walking through an alleyway between Diamond Close and Church Street when somebody approached her from behind and pushed her on the back of the head. This then caused the woman to stumble and she hit her face against a lamp post.

The woman suffered a bruised and swollen eye but did not require medical treatment.

The woman did not see who pushed her but heard deep male voices and footsteps running away.

PC David Hatton said: “This was an upsetting and frightening incident for the woman involved and police are treating it very seriously. We would like to speak to anyone who has any information about the incident or who may have seen anyone
acting suspiciously in the area that evening.

“Incidents like this are very rare in Fordingbridge and this is very much an isolated incident. However, we would urge people to be vigilant and to be aware of what is going on around them when they are out and about alone, especially when
it is dark. Try and stick to main roads and well lit areas and avoid walking alone if possible. It is always better to walk in groups.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC David Hatton at Ringwood police station on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
